School & Sixth Form Newsletter - Summer 2025

Welcome! As we come to the end of a fantastic year, we want to take a moment to reflect on some of the highlights from this final term. Our term-time holidays were full of adventure, fun, and meaningful experiences that created lasting memories for our young people. It was wonderful to end the term with a series of celebration events, and we were thrilled to welcome so many parents and carers to share in those special moments.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the year. We wish all our families a restful and enjoyable summer break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for an exciting new academic year in late August.

Summer achievement celebrations

Yesterday, we celebrated the many successes of our students during our summer celebration day. We welcomed families and visitors to celebrate alongside staff and students to recognise the small steps, achievements and progress made in lower and upper school. There were lots of smiles, cheers and applause for each other, highlighting our consistent drive for encouragement and recognition.

Term time holiday 2025

Wow, what a week we've had!

Our term-time holiday week was a huge success and packed full of unforgettable memories for our boys. From local adventures to international travels, it was an incredible opportunity for fun, growth, laughter, friendships and new experiences.
Some of our boys took to the skies for the very first time, jetting off to destinations like Catalonia and Dalaman. Others enjoyed the great outdoors closer to home, with trips to Rhyl caravan park, Billinghay fishing camp, Skirfare bunk barn, Skegness, Edinburgh and Wales.

We also had some brilliant day trips for those staying nearby – making sure everyone had the chance to experience something special.
A huge thank you to all the staff who made this possible and supported our boys every step of the way. It’s been a week full of laughter, learning and lasting memories.

Learning celebrations

We finished off the term with our upper and lower school learning celebrations! Students were able to bring all their work to show staff from across the foundation, identifying pieces they were most proud of. It was lovely to see so many of our students confidently express how proud they are of their academic achievements. Many learning tokens were handed out for their efforts, and it was a great opportunity to reflect on what a fantastic year we have had across school.

STEM Day

What a fantastic STEM day.
We welcomed VR – Space where everyone became an astronaut, exploring the depths of space through Virtual Reality.
The boys had a go at stop motion animation using a range of digital devices and creating their own story, whilst learning how to collect, analyse, evaluate and present data and information.
There was also the opportunity to create Electricity and Circuits looking at basic engineering, electronics and circuitry concepts. Not forgetting our usual fun challenges - Building a paper tower and Guess the number of sweets in the tub!

Hargreaves art

The Hargreaves boys have really enjoyed getting creative with spray paint and making their art work individualised and personal. Some fantastic pieces of art produced by everyone.

Mountain Rescue

Calder Valley Search and Rescue teams visited school. It was great opportunity for the boys to learn about people who help us. The boys engaged exceptionally.  They especially enjoyed the lights and sirens!

RE Week

Towards the end of June, the whole school took part in our second RE week. This time we learnt about the symbols of the six main religions. We used Art to create a range of symbols using a variety of media. The week ended with more creativity as the boys designed their own family shield, with symbols to represent their own beliefs and interests. Many curious and insightful discussions took place throughout the week, further developing the boys' understanding of the wider world.

We explored religious symbols for Buddhism, Judaism and Hinduism and learnt the meaning behing each one.

Sixth Form update

Some of our students have taken part in meaningful work experience placements that help them build confidence and prepare for life beyond Sixth Form. Staff support each student to find and apply for a role that matches their interests and future goals. This includes support with writing applications, practising interview skills, and understanding what to expect in the workplace. Some students are also supported during the first few days of their placement to help them settle in and feel comfortable. This extra encouragement makes a real difference and helps students get the most out of their experience.

We’re proud of the way our students rise to the challenge and the feedback from employers is always incredibly positive.
