About us

William Henry Smith School and Sixth Form is a specialist residential school for children and young people aged 5–19 with complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and provision is tailored to their individual profiles.

Teaching is highly specialised, supported by small class sizes and high staff-to-pupil ratios, enabling consistent delivery of EHCP outcomes and sustained engagement in learning.

Students benefit from access to a multidisciplinary therapeutic team, including psychotherapists, occupational therapists (OT), and speech and language therapists (SaLT), alongside dedicated family support and counselling.

As a residential setting, the school provides a 24-hour provision that supports the development of independence, life skills and positive relationships beyond the classroom.
