Fizz Free February Campaign Launches

We are a fizz free foundation

The William Henry Smith Foundation is reaffirming its dedication to our boys’ health and wellbeing with the launch of its “Fizzy Free Foundation” initiative in February.

The campaign outlines the Foundation’s continued commitment to uphold its Healthy Schools Diamond Standard by ensuring that all school and college buildings and services remain free of fizzy drinks throughout the learning day.

The policy applies to all carbonated soft drinks, including those labelled “diet” or “zero sugar”.  According to the Foundation, these drinks can hinder concentration, contribute to energy crashes, and increase the risk of tooth decay.

Posters will be placed across the whole foundation to support the campaign and communicate the health benefits for all.

Health benefits

To support better focus and overall wellbeing, boys and staff are encouraged to bring only water, milk, or unsweetened juice into school. These healthier options will also be reflected in drinks available across all Foundation settings.

While acknowledging that treats have a place in everyday life, the Foundation emphasises that the policy aims to create the best possible learning environment for everyone.  "I'm fizz free" badges will soon be available to all boys who support the initiative.

Staff will have access to badges, ensuring they support the campaign and understand their roles

A plea to parents

A letter outlining the refreshed policy has been sent to parents and carers, and leaders expressed their appreciation for the community’s ongoing support.

With this renewed focus, the William Henry Smith Foundation continues to lead by example - maintaining a healthy, “Fizzy Free Foundation” for all.
